Through the support of funding partner, the Cook Government, the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is thrilled to announce the successful completion of the upgrade to the Fitzroy Crossing town oval lighting system.
The $1.5 million funding has supported the lighting upgrade as well as assisting the Shire with planning for the Fitzroy Crossing recreation and evacuation centre.
These projects underscore the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley's commitment to creating vibrant and inclusive community spaces that cater to the diverse needs and interests of residents and visitors alike.
Shire President Peter McCumstie expressed gratitude for the generous support from the WA State Government, emphasising the significant impact the lighting upgrade project will have on the region's social landscape.
"The lighting upgrade at Fitzroy oval has ensured that our popular facility now provides high quality lighting for community and regional sport; and goes a long way to help ensure the ongoing growth and sustainability of the Central Kimberley Football League and other key users.”

Installation of the new lighting system at the oval reached practical completion in June, with games under lights commencing in July and enjoyed by both the local and visiting footy teams.
Member for Kimberley Divina D’Anna said the project would improve community access to the oval, especially at night when it was cooler.
“Sport is the lifeblood of the community and it is fantastic to see this upgrade thanks to the Cook Labor Government,” she said.
