The Shire’s Environmental Health Team provide a professional service that will maximise environmental and public health standards within the community environment by identifying, preventing and remedying health and environmental related hazards and risks.

Environmental Health Offices routinely monitor the following types of registerable premises:

  • Food businesses (fixed, mobile and temporary food businesses)
  • Public/private swimming pools
  • Lodging houses/ accommodation
  • Caravan parks and camping grounds
  • Public buildings (including public events)

Complaint investigations may involve pests such as mosquitos and rodents; food safety concerns;  environmental light, noise and odour nuisances; minor water pollution; asbestos; and hoarding and squalor.

Environmental Health Officers are authorised under various Local and State legislation to undertake the following activities as related to Environmental Health matters:

  • Enter any premises or other place, make an inspection and take samples
  • Stop, detain and search any registered food vehicle 
  • Require a person to produce any licence, registration, permit, approval, certificate or other documentation
  • Require a person to state their full name and address and ask for verification
  • Question any person and require answers
  • Seize and detain any articles or equipment
  • Open containers and packages
  • Take photographs, video, other images and audio
  • Request assistance from a competent person
  • Use such force that is reasonably necessary
