The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is thrilled to announce the successful acquisition of $6.32 million in funding from Lotterywest to support various community projects and initiatives. This significant investment will facilitate the scoping, design, and construction of vital initiatives aimed at enriching public spaces, enhancing community amenities and fostering youth engagement.
These projects are scheduled to commence this year, with estimated completion by late 2025. The funded community projects include:
- The FX Youth Precinct Stage 1 project which will introduce a dynamic water spray park, aimed at creating a safe and engaging environment for youth and families to enjoy recreational activities.The creation of community art projects to install and showcase community artworks in both towns.
- The construction of shade shelters and seating along Ashley St, Derby and Forrest Rd, Fitzroy Crossing.
- Minor upgrades to the Derby Civic Centre including exploring options for air-conditioning!
- Installation of permanent shade structures to four playgrounds in Derby and the replacement of play equipment.
- Upgrades to the lighting at the basketball courts in the Derby Recreation Centre and fence replacement.
These projects underscore the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley's commitment to creating vibrant, inclusive, and community-centric spaces that cater to the diverse needs and interests of residents and visitors alike.
Lotterywest CEO Colin Smith said Lotterywest is proud to support the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley’s several community projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing public spaces and amenities and supporting youth engagement, which will deliver lasting benefits for the local community.
“This $6.32 million Lotterywest grant will create an engaging and safe environment for young people to enjoy, support community art and upgrade local facilities with amenities such as shade and air-conditioning,” Mr Smith said.
“Creating spaces that young people and the broader community can enjoy, with a strong connection to country and culture, goes hand in hand with an inclusive, thriving, community.
“Lotterywest is thrilled to contribute towards enhancing the day to day lives, and future, of the community in Derby/West Kimberley.”
Shire President Peter McCumstie expressed gratitude for the generous support from Lotterywest, emphasising the significant impact these projects will have on the region's social and cultural landscape.
