The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley would like to advise the Derby Memorial Swimming Pool will be closed for scheduled maintenance from Thursday, 28 July to Sunday 25 September 2022.

During this time the facility’s two pools will be repainted and re-tiled, the wet deck gutters upgraded, new lane ropes installed in the lap pool and repairs made to damaged shade clothes, providing a welcome facelift to the ageing pool.

Also included in the scope of works is various safety initiatives, including improvements to chemical storage, electrical safety upgrades and the removal of two dive blocks, as well as the remediation of corrosion on posts, columns and lighting towers within the venue.

Access to the 25 metre lap pool will also be enhanced through the project for people with limited mobility with the installation of new accessibility equipment.

The upgrades are being funded through the third phase of the Commonwealth Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.

“The Derby Memorial Swimming Pool is very important to our community,” Shire President Cr Haerewa said.

“Whilst we understand the temporary closure is likely to cause interruptions for community members these works are necessary to ensure the community can continue to safely enjoy the pool for the next five to seven years.”

“We look forward to being able to welcome everyone back to the pool just in time for the wet season!”
