To accommodate a new requirement of the WA Local Government Act, every WA local government is now required to have an independent person sit on its Executive Officer (CEO) Selection Panel. The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley therefore now invites interested people to sit on it’s CEO Selection Panel. The role of the Panel is to facilitate the recruitment and selection process for the Shire’s new CEO. The Panel will consist of several current councillors, and the appointed independent person and it will be in place until the CEO appointment is made.
The independent person cannot be a current elected member, human resources consultant, or staff member of the Shire.
The Panel is responsible for amongst other things, assessing applicants and making a recommendation to Council regarding the most suitable applicant or applicants. The essence of the role of an independent panel member is to bring an impartial perspective to the process and reduce any perception of bias or nepotism.
The Panel has existing terms of reference (which need to be followed by panel members). A copy of the Terms of Reference can be obtained on requestion, by emailing the Director – Strategic Business, Neil Hartley (Neil.Hartley@SDWK.wa.gov.au).
Applicants should outline in their written application, any prior experience they may have in the selection and appointment of employees, and highlight any personal or other attributes that would make them the most suitable applicant for the position. The preferred applicant will be selected (based on their written applications) by Council. Applicants should also outline the remuneration they are seeking to secure in exchange for their attendance and contribution as a CEO Selection Panel member.
For more information or clarification please call Neil Hartley on 041 794 2794.
Applications must be in writing and be received by the Shire before 5.00pm Monday 16 September 2024. Applications can be via email, to Neil.Hartley@SDWK.wa.gov.au , or be in hard copy delivered to the 30 Loch Street Derby Administration Centre of the Shire.
