The Shire

The Role

The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is in search of an enthusiastic, innovative and visionary Senior Executive who will work in partnership with the Elected Members to further the strategic vision of the Shire and the Community. Representing the Shire across the industry, you will lead the Shire’s team, develop strong working relationships with all stakeholders and cultivate the unique Kimberley spirit and lifestyles, while assisting with the continued economic development of the region.

The CEO will report directly to the Shire President and Councillors, taking charge of aligning the Council's operations with its strategic objectives, ensuring effective financial oversight, and fostering a unified and high-performing organisational culture. The successful applicant will be expected to immerse themselves in the community, cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with residents, businesses, and key stakeholders.

The Requirements

To excel in this position, it is essential to exhibit robust leadership abilities and foster a positive team culture among the Council, the community, and staff, thereby contributing to the continuous development and growth of the Shire. Additionally, you should have a proven capability to perform the responsibilities of the CEO, with a specific focus on local government and a comprehensive understanding of the operations within a rural Shire. A proactive and solution-oriented mindset is crucial.

The Package

A performance based 3-to-5-year maximum term contract will be negotiated which includes an attractive remuneration package in the vicinity of $228,973 to $356,181 per annum. This includes a negotiable cash component commensurate with qualifications and experience, generous annual leave and superannuation (conditional), unrestricted business & private use of a vehicle and subsidised housing, utilities subsidies, and a regional/isolation allowance of up to $45,000.
