Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is pleased to announce the appointment of Tamara Clarkson as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). At a Special Meeting of Council held on Thursday 20 February 2025, Council received and endorsed the recommendations of the CEO Recruitment Panel to appoint Tamara.
Tamara lives and breathes local government, with 18 years of experience working across regional and metro Western Australia. Tamara has extensive experience in finance, governance and executive management and has a Master of Business Administration from UWA. Over the past several months, Tamara has been supporting the Shire as Acting CEO while the recruitment process was underway and will now continue her work as Chief Executive Officer.
Shire President Peter McCumstie welcomed the appointment, stating,
“Tamara has already shown great leadership and a real passion for making a difference in our region. Her vision and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to work together to build a strong and sustainable future for the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley.”
Tamara says she’s thrilled to take on the role and continue working with Council, staff and the community.
"I absolutely love living and working in the Derby/West Kimberley region. This place is very special to me – the people, the landscapes, the sense of community. Local government plays such an important role in supporting our towns and remote communities and I’m excited to keep advocating for the best possible outcomes for our Shire.”
Council thanks all candidates who applied for the position and looks forward to working closely with Tamara as she takes on this important leadership role.
