The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is pleased to see that some early figures released by WA Police in the Kimberley, have indicated a decline in alcohol-related anti-social and family violence incidents, during the period July 15 to August 15.
Shire President Peter McCumstie shared his thoughts on the data, saying,
“Whilst we are pleased to see any decline in alcohol related violence in our towns, I agree with Police Minister Papalia that results are still early and we are aware that historically sudden declines as indicated here do occur initially when there are changes to liquor supply.”
The Shire has requested a detailed breakdown of these figures and further information on their collection and context to better understand their implications.
Mr McCumstie added,
“A breakdown of the figures along with details as to how they are collected and in what circumstances will help us, along with the community, to understand what is occurring and monitor progress over the medium to long term".
The Shire will continue to work with WA Police, community organisations and government officials to monitor and address these issues effectively to ensure improved outcomes for our community.
