Shire President Peter McCumstie expressed regret on behalf of Council upon receiving the resignation of Amanda Dexter, CEO of Shire of Derby/West Kimberley.

"While we are disappointed to lose Amanda, we understand and wish her the very best in her role as CEO at the Shire of Carnarvon, which is Amanda's home".

It is with a heavy heart and mixed emotions that Amanda Dexter, announces her resignation effective 11 October 2024. Amanda will be returning to her home town of Carnarvon, taking on the exciting opportunity as CEO at the Shire.

Since joining the Shire of Derby West Kimberley in June 2019, Amanda has made a profound impact on both the organisation and the community. She has led the organisation with exemplary leadership through challenging times including the COVID-19 pandemic, initiated crucial financial sustainability measures, revamped corporate governance practices and steered the way through response and recovery efforts during the Kimberley Floods of January of 2023.

Under Amanda's leadership, the Shire witnessed remarkable progress in several key areas. She played a pivotal role in enhancing the Shire's Youth Programs in Derby and Fitzroy Crossing, spearheaded the acclaimed sculptures on the Marsh Project and secured recent funding from Lotterywest to enhance liveability across the Shire.

Amanda’s passion and focus has always been community development, seen in her revitalisation of numerous Shire programs to better meet the evolving needs of the local communities across the Shire. Amanda has also been instrumental in supporting and developing an increase in local employment opportunities within the Shire and remains committed to promoting "buy local" initiatives and fostering economic development, thereby creating avenues for the region's youth to thrive and prosper.

The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley expresses its sincere gratitude to Amanda for her outstanding contributions and leadership during her time here.

"Amanda has given us a wonderful level of dedicated service and commitment and our Council and our community have appreciated the time and effort Amanda has given to us over the past five years", Mr McCumstie stated.

Reflecting on her tenure, Amanda noted that her family has a long-standing connection with Carnarvon and although incredibly  saddened to be leaving SDWK, she expressed eagerness and excitement to return home and apply the skills and knowledge she has accumulated over the past 20 years.

Council will now begin the process of seeking a replacement CEO and thus ensuring a continuation and continuity in the work to improve the liveability of all our people in our towns and communities.
