30 April 2024 For immediate release
The Shire of Derby/West Kimberley is pleased to inform the community that works to upgrade Alfonsas Street will be commencing on the 15th May and is aimed to be completed in late May or early June 2024.
The scheduled road reconstruction works include including lowering the road to improve drainage as well as improving the road surface itself, significantly enhancing the safety and functionality of our roads.
Despite some unavoidable delays, including delays in coordination of service providers due to the flooding event in Fitzroy Crossing, the Shire is committed to completing these repairs in a timely manner.
This project represents a significant public works initiative within a broader scheme aimed at improving infrastructure throughout the Shire, including repairs already underway or scheduled for several other Shire roads, such as Jetty Road.
This project is funded under the Commonwealth Roads to Recovery Program to an amount of $499 000 as well as Shire of Derby/West Kimberley Council contribution of $101 000, totalling $600 000 for the project.
The Shire appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation during this period and will endeavour to provide updates on the progress of the road repair works via our website and Facebook.
