The Appointment of Mr Jeff Gooding PSM, JP as Commissioner

Today, Jeff Gooding PSM, JP took the Declaration of Office as the Commissioner of the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley.
His role is to operate as the Council until new members are elected and the new Council holds its first meeting. This is expected to happen in October 2025.
Four members of Council resigned on 26 February 2025. A fifth Council member resigned on 28 February 2025 which meant that more than half of the offices of Council were vacant.
On 15 April 2025 the Minister for Local Government, the Hon. Hannah Beazley MLA announced in a Media Release the remaining offices of Council vacant and appointing the Commissioner. Mr Gooding has 46 years' experience working at senior levels of Local and State government in the Kimberley region and is a Public Service Medal recipient.
As a highly respected and experienced member of the Kimberley community, the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley looks forward to working alongside Mr Gooding as he leads the organisation through this important period of transition.
In accordance with the Local Government Act 1995 the function of the Commissioner is to exercise the powers and discharge the duties of the Council and its President.
