A public building is regarded as a place, building or part of a building where numbers of people assemble or gather for a range of activities or purposes. Churches; nightclubs; theatres; concert venues; and places or buildings used for sporting or recreational purposes could all be considered as a public building.
Environmental Health Officers are responsible for the approval and regular assessment of all public buildings in conjunction with relevant agencies. Public buildings are assessed on their type of use, maximum number of persons permitted at any one time, and public safety.
